Website and User Terms

These terms explain the free enquiry and introduction service provided to website users. Directory Enquiries Limited introduces users to independent businesses; it does not carry out the requested work. Version dated 5 September 2026.

1 About these terms

1.1 These terms apply when you visit our website, contact us through it, or submit an enquiry using the Directory Enquiries service (the “Service”).

1.2 The Service is operated by Directory Enquiries Limited (“Directory Enquiries”, “we”, “us” or “our”), a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16193582, whose registered office is Independence House, Millfield Lane, Nether Poppleton, York, YO26 6PH. Our website is https://directoryenquiriesuk.com/.

1.3 By using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, you should not submit an enquiry. Nothing in these terms affects rights that the law gives you and which cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

1.4 Our Privacy Policy at https://directoryenquiriesuk.com/privacy explains how we collect, use, retain and share personal information. It forms part of the information you should read before submitting an enquiry.

2 Who may use the Service

2.1 You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a contract. If you submit an enquiry for somebody else or for an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to do so and to provide the information submitted.

2.2 You may use the Service only for a genuine enquiry about goods or services that you are considering obtaining. The Service is not intended for market research, sales approaches, recruitment, data collection, testing, scraping or other unrelated purposes.

3 How the Service works

3.1 The Service allows you to describe what you need and request contact from businesses that may be able to help. We do not charge users for submitting an enquiry unless a charge is clearly stated and accepted before the relevant service is requested.

3.2 We may use the category, location, timing and other details of your enquiry to identify relevant businesses. We may then display details of suitable businesses to you, send your enquiry to one or more relevant businesses, or do both.

3.3 Before you submit an enquiry, the enquiry form or accompanying notice will explain that your contact details and enquiry information may be passed to relevant businesses. Any stated limit on the number of recipients will apply to that submission.

3.4 Businesses receiving your enquiry may contact you by telephone, text message, email or another method you have supplied to discuss that specific enquiry. Submitting an enquiry does not by itself permit unrelated direct marketing.

3.5 Participating businesses may pay us for access to the Directory Enquiries service or for related business services. This does not make them our employees, agents or subcontractors. Any placement that is paid for or promoted as advertising will be identified where the law requires it.

4 Our role

4.1 We provide an enquiry-routing and introduction service. We do not carry out the work you request, provide the quotation, set the business’s price, collect payment for the work, supervise its performance, or become a party to any contract between you and a business.

4.2 Businesses are independent from us and are responsible for their own descriptions, availability, quotations, advice, credentials, insurance, conduct and work. A business appearing in the directory or receiving an enquiry is not, by itself, a recommendation, approval or guarantee from us.

4.3 We may carry out checks on a business or on information it supplies. Unless we expressly describe a particular check as completed, you should not assume that we have verified identity, qualifications, licences, insurance, financial standing, experience, reviews or suitability.

5 Your enquiry and information

5.1 You must take reasonable care to provide information that is accurate, current and complete. You should not include information that is unnecessary for the enquiry, especially financial information, passwords, security details, medical information or other sensitive personal information.

5.2 You must promptly tell us if material enquiry information changes or if you want the enquiry withdrawn. Withdrawal may stop further routing, but it may not recall information already sent to a business. You may need to contact a recipient directly about information it already holds.

5.3 We may refuse, pause, correct or remove an enquiry where we reasonably believe it is false, misleading, unlawful, abusive, duplicated, unsafe, outside the Service, or likely to infringe another person’s rights.

6 No guaranteed response or result

6.1 We do not promise that any business will receive or respond to your enquiry, provide a quotation, be available, meet your budget or timetable, or agree to carry out the work.

6.2 We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of information supplied by a business, or the price, quality, safety, legality or outcome of any goods, services, advice or work that it provides.

6.3 Matching and routing depend on the information available to us and on participating businesses. A match does not mean that a business is the only, cheapest or most suitable provider for you.

7 Choosing and contracting with a business

7.1 You are responsible for deciding whether a business is suitable. Before agreeing to proceed, you should check matters relevant to the work, which may include identity, experience, qualifications, licences, memberships, insurance, references, reviews, availability, written scope, price, taxes, payment terms, cancellation rights and guarantees.

7.2 Any quotation, order or contract for goods or services is made directly between you and the business. Its terms, and the consumer rights that apply to that transaction, are separate from these terms.

7.3 Questions, changes, cancellations, payments, complaints or disputes concerning a business’s quotation or work should be raised with that business. We may choose to help communication, but we are not required to decide the dispute or provide a refund on the business’s behalf.

8 Content you provide

8.1 You retain ownership of text, photographs, documents and other material you submit. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, format and use that material only as reasonably required to operate, secure and improve the Service, route the enquiry, communicate with you and relevant businesses, and comply with law.

8.2 You confirm that you own the material or have permission to provide and use it in this way, and that it is lawful, accurate and does not infringe another person’s rights or contain malicious code.

9 Reviews and feedback

9.1 If the Service allows reviews or other public feedback, your contribution must reflect your genuine experience and must not be fake, incentivised without disclosure, defamatory, threatening, discriminatory, obscene, unlawful or misleading.

9.2 We may moderate, investigate, reject or remove content where reasonably necessary to enforce these terms, protect users, comply with law or preserve the integrity of the Service. We are not required to publish every contribution.

10 Acceptable use and security

10.1 You must not misuse the website or Service, attempt unauthorised access, introduce malware, interfere with operation, evade restrictions, impersonate another person, harvest data, send spam, or use automated tools to scrape, copy or overload the Service.

10.2 We may restrict or block access where reasonably necessary for security, maintenance, legal compliance, investigation of misuse, or protection of users and businesses.

11 Availability and changes to the Service

11.1 We aim to keep the Service available and accurate, but it may be interrupted for maintenance, technical failure, security reasons or events outside our reasonable control. We may change, suspend or withdraw features where reasonably necessary.

11.2 We will use reasonable care and skill in providing the parts of the Service for which we are legally responsible.

12 Website rights

12.1 We or our licensors own the website, its design, software, databases, branding and content, except for material supplied by users or businesses. You may use the website for your personal, non-commercial enquiry but may not copy, sell, republish, scrape or commercially exploit it without permission.

13 Our responsibility to you

13.1 We are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable when you used the Service.

13.2 Because we are not the provider of the goods or services requested, we are not responsible for a business’s acts, omissions, quotation, advice, charges, goods, services or work, except to the extent that the loss was caused by our own breach of duty.

13.3 The Service is supplied for personal and domestic use. We are not liable for business losses, including loss of profit, revenue, opportunity, anticipated savings, goodwill or business interruption.

13.4 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Nothing excludes your statutory consumer rights.

14 Complaints and contact

14.1 To complain about the Directory Enquiries service or report a concern about a participating business, contact us at admin@directoryenquiriesuk.com, 03330 112 192 or Directory Enquiries Limited, Independence House, Millfield Lane, Nether Poppleton, York, YO26 6PH. Please include enough information for us to identify the enquiry and understand the issue.

14.2 A complaint about goods or services supplied by a business should also be made directly to that business. Reporting it to us does not replace any notice, claim or deadline that applies between you and the business.

15 General

15.1 We may update these terms to reflect changes to the Service, law, regulation, security or business operations. The version displayed when you submit an enquiry will apply to that enquiry, unless a change is required by law or you agree otherwise.

15.2 If any provision is found unlawful or unenforceable, it will be treated as removed only to the extent necessary; the remaining provisions will continue to apply.

15.3 These terms are between you and us. No other person may enforce them, except where legislation expressly provides otherwise.

15.4 English law governs these terms. If you live in the United Kingdom, you may bring proceedings in the courts that apply where you live, and you keep any mandatory protections of that jurisdiction.
